How can I increase the security of my website?

There are a few things you can do to keep your website, account, or email safe:

1.) Most websites get hacked due to failure to update the scripts and plugins installed on a website. Always keep your scripts & plugins up to date! A few minutes to check and apply an update to PHP scripts can save you from headaches and hours of lost time.

2.) Always have an antivirus installed on your computer. Keep the antivirus updated. Some viruses "steal" email and FTP passwords that can then be used by the attacker to infect your website or do other nefarious things.

3.) Backups! Always keep your own backups! There's a Backup function in cPanel that's fast and easy to use. Accounts can be easily restored from the backup file if you accidentally delete something or your scripts get hacked. We also backup your site nightly, but it never hurts to have another copy.

4.) Use SSL for everything! Avoid insecure connections and ensure that your email and FTP clients are connecting using SSL. By default, all of our services support SSL and it's wise to take advantage of it.
