Preparing your domain registration for transfer

There are a few steps that you need to do before you submit the transfer request with DreamHost. The following changes should be done for your domain name:

  1. Unlock the domain registration for transfer
  2. Remove the privacy protection from your WHOIS registration information and make sure a valid email address is set up as the "Registrant" contact to receive any transfer approval emails
  3. Obtain the auth code, which is also known as the EPP code from the panel. You need this code in order to complete the transfer-in request

You can unlock the registration and adjust the privacy in the panel at "Panel > Domains > Registrations."
The auth code (or EPP code) is available on the "Panel > Domains > Reg. Transfer" page.

Limitations on new domains

Note that the domain registration being transferred must not be within 60 days of the original purchase or transfer due to ICANN restrictions.

Also note that Authorization Codes are not required for .bz, .cc,.gd, .im, .tc, .tel, .tv, .vg, and .ws extensions.

Note: Users with .uk emails should disregard this page and visit here for more details.
